Diamond Dress

Hi everyone! I finally have a new sewing project to share with you. I have been busy with work and although I have been sewing I haven't found time to blog until now. This is the Diamond Dress from Shwin Designs. It was part of the newest Pattern Anthology bundle.

The diamond shape to the bodice is my favorite part of the pattern. I've had this ruffle knit for a couple years and thought it would be perfect for the diamond. I didn't want to take away from the detail of the ruffle fabric so I went with a simple black ponte from Girl Charlee.

The fit seems okay - I didn't make any adjustments from the pattern but I'm not sure what to do about the wrinkles near the armpits. Does anyone know what adjustments I would need to make next time?

The skirt can be flared or gathered - I went with the flared option. I had wanted to make it a few inches longer but because of the flare I had just enough fabric. I do like how this length looks with leggings and boots though.

The dress has pockets! I always forget to add them if the pattern doesn't already have that option. The pattern has various sleeve options and I decided to go with long sleeves since the weather is getting colder. It is a very comfortable dress.

What have you been sewing lately?

  1. This looks great on you Elizabeth! I love that diamond on the front. I would guess that the wrinkles in the armpits would mean you need to do a full bust adjustment? Not enough fabric in that area is pulling the fabric forward and creating those wrinkles. But that is just a guess. :)
