Wildflower Tops

This is the Wildflower Top from Blank Slate Patterns. It's a knit top pattern with a choice of short sleeves, bell sleeves, or long sleeves. For this turquoise top, I chose the bell sleeves and I love how it drapes so nicely. The under bodice is layered under the deep V front bodice and it is perfect because it adds extra coverage without too much bulk.

There are pleats at the shoulders and just under the bust and the pattern walks you through how to customize the fit perfectly to you! The turquoise fabric is a reversible knit from Joann's and the reverse side was great for the inner bodice. I was lazy and didn't hem the sleeves - good thing knit doesn't fray!

I also made a second Wildflower Top with short sleeves.

My original plan was to make the top completely purple with the grey fabric as the insert. However, due to a cutting mistake I didn't have enough fabric. I'm blaming it on cutting it out too early in the morning..haha.

I do like how it turned out with the two colors though! I had a little trouble with the pleats on this top. I think it really depends on the type of fabric you use. My turquoise knit was lighter and more flowy, so I really didn't have any problems with the pleats. The grey knit was a little heavier and stiffer. After a few adventures with my seam ripper it all worked out!

These tops were a lot of fun to sew and add some interest to my wardrobe. I like that it is a basic, everyday top, but the pleats make it more interesting.

What's on your sewing table this week?
